The original version YSL-643 was my first F-attachment trombone—in junior high. I recall it as playing very open and having a full, but lively sound. The slide action was excellent—not surprising for Yamaha. The trigger mechanism was string driven and actuated .0 for a well-used large-bore F-attachment Yamaha trombone! Bell has evidence of repair. I had the opportunity to test the 400 level vs the 600 level of .525 bore (with valve), both brand new out of the box. The difference was night and day. The 600 felt totally different.
